Where that legacy is visible
In Milano the reference points are Pinacoteca di Brera, Fondazione Prada, Museo del Novecento, Triennale Milano, PAC. A public collection is also the cheapest way to train your eye: before buying, looking a lot is the investment that pays best.
How you actually find a contemporary artist
Broadly there are three routes: art academies and their graduation shows, art fairs, and platforms selling directly online. None of them needs a large budget, and all three let you see the work before committing.
What to look for in an artist you do not know
Not the name — the consistency. A body of work that holds together tells you more than one good image. Then the stated technique, the format and the edition size. An author early in their career who works seriously always documents those three.
